Using the Device Setup app

Getting Started

The Device Setup app completes several tasks to get you up and running with Oculus for Business:

  • It ties the serial numbers on each headset to your account so that they're ready to set up in Device Manager.

  • It starts the warranty coverage period for each headset.

    • It marks the serial number as belonging to an enterprise headset, and adds the operating system and features for Oculus for Business.

    • It updates the settings and policies for Device Manager.

    • It matches the serial number in Device Manager and updates the status of the headset from Unconfigured to Active.

To download and log in to the Device Setup app:

    1. Log in to Device Manager with your Workplace username or business email address associated with the account.

    2. From Device Manager, click Device Fleet, then click Unconfigured Devices.

    3. Click Get Setup App, then click Add recipient next to your name. You can also send the download link to other teammates.

    4. From an Android mobile phone, click Download Device Setup app in the email sent to you.

    5. Follow the prompts in the app to complete setup.

      • Your mobile phone may display "Do you want to install this application? It does not require any special access."

    6. Open the Device Setup app on the Android mobile phone and log in to the app using your Workplace credentials.

If you used the Oculus app to set up your headsets, delete the devices paired to the app and use Device Setup.

Note: The Device Setup app is only available for Android.

To log in to the Device Setup app:

    Setting Up Your Wi-Fi

For the initial setup using the Device Setup App, Oculus for Business supports:

    • WPA2 (passphrase) network.

    • Open network.

    • Wi-Fi hotspot.

These network restrictions are only for the initial provisioning of headsets through the setup app. Once your devices are active in Device Manager, you'll be able to use additional, more secure Wi-Fi network options.

Additionally, the network you use for setup can't utilise a captive portal. A captive portal is a web page that prompts you to interact with it before connecting you to the Internet. These are commonly used by public Wi-Fi networks in businesses, airports, hotels and other venues that offer free Wi-Fi hotspots.

    Preparing Your Phone

Find out what type of phone you need and how to set it up.

Yes, you can access your account from multiple phones. However you'll want each phone to use a different login. We recommend designating and creating an additional admin for each phone that you would like to use to set up your headsets.

If you need to add additional Device Manager admins:
    1. Click People at the top of Device Manager.

    2. Type the person's name or email address into the search bar under Add an Admin.

    3. Find their name in the drop-down list, and select add to Device Manager.

To add the Device Setup app to multiple phones:
    1. From your Device Manager's Device Fleet page, click Download Device Setup App.

    2. Enter another admin's email address to send them a link to download the Device Setup app.

    3. When they receive the email with the download link, have each admin download the app to a Samsung s10, Google Pixel 2 or Google Pixel 3 phone.

    4. Once the app has been downloaded, launch the Device Setup app and have the admin log into the app using the same account that they use for Device Manager.

You can download the Device Setup app on a new phone and log in to your account with the same email address and password you used previously. We also recommend changing the password on the account after you set up your new phone.

    Preparing Your Headsets

Understand what to do to get your headsets into Device Manager.

The Device Setup app is designed to allow you to scan multiple devices in the most efficient way possible. With that said, we recommend batching your scans in sets of 25 or fewer devices.

While the app can handle scanning more than 25 headsets at a time, if any of the provisioning fails, you'll need to match the serial number to find the correct headset. The process of locating the failed headset will be easier with a smaller group.

No, please disregard the instructions that came in the box with the headset. Instead, you can refer to the instructions included in your Device Manager account and sent to you via email.

If you downloaded the Oculus mobile app on your phone, but haven't started the process of setting it up with your devices, you can delete the app and download the Device Setup app instead.

If you've already used the Oculus app to set up your headsets, you'll need to perform a factory reset of those headsets to be able to use them with your Device Setup app.

    To perform a factory reset:

    1. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.

    2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.

    3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If you have trouble with turning your headset back on after reset, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
